Title: Today at the Reception
Rating/Warnings: PG-13
Summary: Jack gets married.
Notes: Written before class today in my notebook, typed up and editted when I got home. It didn't go quite the way I thought it was going to beyond, well, being very bitter.

you can't always get what you want
but if you try sometimes you just might find
you get what you need.

--You Can't Always Get What You Want, The Rolling Stones

Serina isn't pretty, but she's quick-witted, patient, and attractive enough in a rugged, outdoorsy way. She's everything you'd expect out of Jack O'Neill's wife.

Daniel hates her.

But he smiles through the wedding, hands Jack the rings, and watches the newlyweds dance at the reception.

Sam sits with him, her smile just as wide and twice as insincere. But that's all right, because everyone pretends not to see.

But Daniel isn't quite ready to let go and move on. He never will be.

So when he gets a moment alone with Jack, he kisses him. The kiss is long, bittersweet, a goodbye and fairwell, fuck you, you bastard.

Daneil's petty enough to enjoy Jack's wide eyes and his slow, drawled out, "...Daniel?"

Danile smiles, gives a tiny laugh. "Congratulations, Jack," he says, as he turns and walks away with the vicious satisfaction of knowing that Serina will never match his history with Jack.

He leaves with Sam, who smiles at him. She hates Serina as much as he does.

She catches his hand in hers.

They're possibly the only two people who understand each other anymore.
